Dr S. Travlos was born in 1957. He studied economics and economic policy at the University of London. He holds a Phd in Economics. From 1991 until 1996 he has worked as a consultant participating in major projects for managing and evaluating European Union funded programs development planning and finance. In 1997 he joined the Ministry of Economy initially as an advisor and in 2000 he was appointed general secretary responsible for capital markets privatizations and structural reforms. During a five year period he had overseen privatizations in excess of 12 billion euro. In 2002 he was appointed general secretary of Financial Planning and Defence Investments at the Ministry of Defence. Since 2004 he has been working as a business consultant in projects related to energy, environment technology and services. He has written a number of articles on industrial policy, business networks, structural reforms, European defence policy and armaments co-operation.
